Sleep is for the weak! Or for the weary law student reading about chaos theory and government regulation.

More Fun Than the State of the Union

I remember watching this as a kid and thinking it was the coolest thing ever. U2 used it to start their US concerts on the ZooTV tour. I think I'd just want to barf if it was his son.

Hell at the Library

This is an ad in a Paris metro station for a show at the National Library. It's called "Hell at the Library, Eros in Secret," and you can read about it here.

The Best of Youth

My life is lately a hellish brew of studying, networking, and mail merging. One thing that has recently brightened my days is The Best of Youth (La Meglio Gioventu), an Italian miniseries was released here as a film a couple years back. Even with all the work I have, it made me forget everything, even who I was before watching it.

It's not just me right? John Edwards and Barack Obama look like they've got something planned against crazy Hilary. (With Bill Richardson as the hapless goon.) I would almost feel bad for the woman if she didn't give me the heeby-jeebies. Not that I find the other candidates so comforting...

Presidential Caucus = Dodgeball Picking

Watch this video and tell me you don't find the process a little too weird and casual. Homemade cookies?

And then of course there's the problem of Iowa and New Hampshire -- two small, overwhelmingly white, and pretty conservative states -- having so much sway, but that's old news.

The town holding the caucus is the "26th best small town in America." Did you catch that?

Do you know crazy cat ladies?

This is a Halloween costume possibly inspired by one of the entries in the New York Times Magazine's Year in Ideas issue:

"According to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 60 million people in the United States are infected with a parasite that may migrate into their brains and alter their behavior in a way that — among other things — may leave them more likely to be eaten by cats."

By the way, my favorite fashion designer, Hussein Chalayan, made the Year in Ideas issue for the second year in a row!

Also interesting: ovulating strippers make more than those who aren't.

Make sure you click on the photo because the resolution isn't very good here. I put it up partly because that video of Papa Smurf was a really creepy first thing to see. This is Edward Street in Toronto.

Papa Smurf (Holy shit!)

Surely this is a metaphor for something...

A lot of people have already seen this video, but it's just so beautiful that I wanted to have it on my site. I also find it oddly comforting, even though I'm not sure whether the guy survives. Another feeling that I can't explain (maybe it's the water imagery and the thought of mortality): this video reminds me of Annie Dillard's "The Wreck of Time", which I had to read freshman year of college.

The Hipster Olympics!

The ending is lame, but for a good eight minutes, this is hilarious (especially if you live near Brooklyn).
